Quiz and Oral Presentation by Young Scientists of AIIMS

The Society of Young Scientists is a national forum for the young researchers actively engaged in scientific research. The society was founded in AIIMS in 1974 by Prof. Pradeep Seth and Prof. B L Jailkhani. Since then the society has been actively involved in organizing Scientific talks and lectures, symposia, conferences, workshops, sports activities, cultural activities round the year. The main aim of society is to serve as a platform for all research scholars and members to actively discuss matters of scientific concern and also to join hands to raise voices for common, scientific and legitimate causes. Since the day of its inception the society has been able to attain several landmark achievements all of which have served to improve the quality and status of scientific research and of those involved in the country. The society sincerely hopes and strives towards making the country a global leader in the field of scientific research. The Society of Young Scientists conducted the quiz and oral presentation competition on 9th April 2014 in AIIMS campus New Delhi in which more than 50 students participated aiming to give a platform to young researchers of AIIMS for exchange of ideas, enhance their skills, built their confidence, increase their knowledge which will help in refining research and presentation skills of its members to make them implicit component of scientific discovery where they can share their great ideas.
Lamp lighting ceremony was performed with the chants of Goddess Saraswati by our chief and honorary guests, Prof. P. K. Julka, Dean Academics and Prof., N. K. Mehra, Dean Research. Anchoring was done by Beenish.
More than 15 contestants were selected to present their research work during oral presentation competition. Dr. Rajesh Kalra got first prize and Shweta Birla and Nidhi Gupta got second prize together. Prof. Arundhati Sharma, Prof. Kalpana Luthra, Dr. Savita Yadav and Prof. Parthaprasad acted as judges during this event.
In quiz competition, 4 teams of graduate students participated. Team of Biotechnology (Sukrit, Vibhuti, Kanchan and Shachi) got the first prize and team of Biochemistry (Sanjeev, Baijnath and colleagues) were runner up. Anchoring in quiz was done by Dr. Hariprasad, Remesh and Pratibha.
The awards were distributed by Prof. T. P. Singh and Dr. Jasbir Kaur.
During this event more than 150 PhD students and researchers were present to actively participate. Audiences were also awarded during quiz competition.
All members of SYS executive committee including Anil Kumar, Chairman; Raman Kumar, General Secretary, Vikrant, Mayank, Neeraj, Satyaprakash, and Mukesh were actively involved till valedictory function.
